Medical Emergency
A medical emergency is an injury or sickness that poses an immediate risk to a person's life or long term health and needs some kind of medical attention. These emergencies can be dealt either by the person himself if it is a minor one or by a specialized person who is suitably qualified enough to deal with the emergency.
Depending on the severity of the emergency, and the type of treatment given, it may involve multiple levels of care, from a first aider to an emergency physician through to specialist surgeons.
Any response to an emergency medical situation will depend strongly on the situation, the patient involved and the availability of resources. It will also vary depending on whether the emergency occurred while the patient was in hospital under medical care, or outside of medical care.
Even healthy people get hurt and sick sometimes. In some cases, you will know that you need to head straight to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. In other cases, it's more difficult to determine whether an injury or an illness needs the attention of a medical professional or can be treated at home.
Different problems require different levels of care. Many minor injuries and illnesses, including some cuts, certain types of rashes, coughs, colds, scrapes, and bruises, can be handled with home care and over-the-counter treatments.
There are several options to opt for depending on your need during an emergency, like calling your doctor, visiting an urgent care center, visiting a hospital emergency room or calling for an ambulance.
Sometimes a few medical emergencies occur for which a patient or his family members are usually unprepared mentally, physically as well as financially like a fire accident, road accident etc.
Whatever may the cruciality of the medical emergency, it must not be taken lightly as the emergency is associated with you or your loved one and a little ignorance in the beginning may take its toll at a later stage.
